Statesville Haunted Prison

Statesville Haunted Prison has been one of the top rated haunted houses around, and after watchign the watching their trailer, I was really excited about going. Two Haunted houses for the prices of one. Sounds pretty good, right?

But then I pulled into the parking lot. Now Statesville is notorious for it's long lines, so I made it a point to get there early, and even though the doors had only been open for ten minutes, the line just to get a ticket was already a forty minute wait.

After dropping $30 on a ticket, I was wrangled into another line, this one under a tent. after another twenty minutes, I was then moved into another line line, just in a small place with a lot of people. I figured this was going to be the group navigating the dim lit corridors with me. In reality, it was the group I was going to stand in line with three more times.

Once, finally, inside the actual "prison", the rooms are actually very well crafted, and the actors have some really great makeup effects. The problem is, there are a lines of people right behind you, so there is no chance to really appreciate all of the work and themes.

The clown room and the sisters rooms were the highlight of the first house. There's also two vortex tunnels, which personally make me feel sick, but I still love going through them.

After emerging from the the first house, another line. The first house only left me mildly disappointed, and I hoped the first house, was a build up to a something better, but it was just a few more lines, and a much shorter house.

The skinny: at least fifteen bucks too much, way too many lines, and not all that scary. On the plus side...free parking? . Line time: two hours, in house time, thirty-five minutes. I guess now I know why there were all those no refund signs

I had more fun at Jonamac Orchard's haunted corn maze last year for six bucks.
